After four significant builds of two cars, Howard changed up a gear with ‘Race Rock’ a two-door Ford Falcon Hardtop built with the express intention of winning Street Machine magazine’s Street Machine of the Year competition. Voted by the 100,000-plus readers of the magazine, SMOTY is Australia’s most coveted street machine prize so Howard carefully crafted the car to appeal to readers and give himself the best chance of winning. Hence, it had the visual appeal of a supercharged big block, a tough Pro Street stance with huge rear wheels and an interior that although based heavily on comp standards, was immaculately trimmed. Howard was successful in his quest with ‘Race Rock’, winning SMOTY in 1995.
